Cervicogenic headache originates from structures in the cervical spine and should be evaluated separately from primary tension-type headache. When the history, examination, and appropriate diagnostic workup support a cervical facet-mediated pain source, treatment options may include cervical medial branch blocks, occipital nerve blocks, treatment of associated myofascial trigger points when appropriate, and cervical radiofrequency ablation.
Radiofrequency ablation may be considered after completion of the required confirmatory medial branch block pathway under the applicable clinical and payer criteria.
Cluster headache and other trigeminal autonomic cephalalgias are specific headache disorders that may involve severe unilateral head pain accompanied by cranial autonomic symptoms.

Depending on the diagnosis and clinical circumstances, adjunctive treatment may include medication management and selected procedures such as sphenopalatine ganglion, supraorbital, supratrochlear, or auriculotemporal nerve blocks. These procedures should not be presented as generic treatment for unilateral facial pain with autonomic symptoms.
TMJ-related pain can affect the jaw, face, temples, ears, and head. Some patients also experience jaw tightness, clicking, clenching, grinding, or muscle spasms that contribute to headaches and facial discomfort.
